OUR MISSION / WHY NEW ASEAN LIT?
As calls for diversity and equity have rightfully increased within the literary sphere, many marginalized and previously unheard groups have found their voices. New ASEAN Lit seeks to do the same for the Southeast Asian Community.
New ASEAN Lit EIC Claire noticed a lack of spaces for writers of the Southeast Asian diaspora and sought to create a magazine to uplift members of her community.
What is ASEAN? / who can submit?
Similar to the European Union, ASEAN is an abbreviation for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, an economic and political conference. 10 countries make up ASEAN: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Due to the historic underrepresentation of these communities, New ASEAN Lit will only accept work from writers and artists who identify with one of the groups listed above.
